What Is Sewer Jetting?
Sewer jetting, also known as hydro jetting, is a method licensed plumbers use to clear sewer mains and other lines. A sewer jetter operates by spraying water at high pressures to remove grease, blockages, and other waste inside sewer mains. Similar to a power washer that removes dirt and grime from decks and the siding of your home.
Do You Need Your Lines Jetted?
Zeek Plumbing typically recommends having a camera run through your sewer main or snaking the line before sewer jetting. However, restaurants and meat processing facilities often fill their sewer main with grease. The snake can clear a normal clog, but may have issues with a line packed with grease. The camera can help you see into the line to see if there is a break, if roots are blocking the line, or if the line even needs to be jetted. The jetter can clear all of the grease, but it will have issues if the pipe is broken or split.
Operating A Jetter
The concept of a jetter is fairly simple, but should only be operated by a licensed plumber. You connect water to the jetter, turn the machine on, and feed the jetter hose through the line you would like to clear. The hose is typically self propelled by the pressurized water, but you still need to assist in feeding the hose through the main. Depending on the nozzle at the end of the hose, there will be water spraying against the walls of the piping clearing debris. There are other hose attachments which can change the direction of the pressurized water.
What Does A Jetter Remove?

However, Zeek Plumbing has also cleared sand, roots, waste, and fabric from the inside of sewer piping. Snaking the sewer main clears the clog, but can leave a portion of the debris inside the piping. Sewer jetting can clean and clear the remaining debris and grease from the inside.
